Les Arc

The home of the French Ski Evolutive method of teaching beginners to ski parallel using short skis. As the pupil improves the length of the ski is  increased. Les Arcs consists of three separate villages known by their heights  1600, 1800 and 2000. The villages are high up in the mountain above the valley  town of Bourg StMaurice. This town now has a direct EuroStar rail link with  Waterloo making it very easy to get to. From the railway station at Bourg StMaurice there is a funicular which takes you directly to Arc 1600. Most of these three resorts are car free with cars left in large car parks at the  entrance to each resort.

Accommodation is largely self-catering although there  are a few half-board hotels. The skiing is ideal for a wide range of abilities  with plenty of green, blue and red runs. For the advanced skier there is ample  off piste skiing and a run from the Aiguille Rouge. In Arc 2000 there is the flying kilometre run. Here you can hire a set of long skis, a crash helmet and extra insurance and try to break the world ski speed  record.

Since I visited Les Arc has been lift linked with La Plagne.
